| Can We 'Solve' Complex Problems? | ||||
| In the field of complexity and management it is frowned on to talk about 'solving' complex problems. This is because, at least by many definitions of 'complexity', complex problems contain so many factors, so much uncertainty, and are evolving so quickly, that to believe we are deriving definitive or optimal 'solutions' is unrealistic and ultimately counter-productive.
When dealing with complex problems, a really good outcome a good 'solution' is often just a higher form of muddling through. To advertise that I offer a "More Sophisticated Muddling-Through" however, doesn't have quite the same optimistic appeal as offering "Solutions". |
